A Few Words from the PAVRO Webinar Committee:

In the weeks since the world of work abruptly changed as a result of COVID-19, offices have been moved to living rooms, staff meetings have become video conference calls, and impromptu conversations are now instant message pop-ups.  In addition to re-orienting ourselves, we are also responsible for supporting our volunteers who are looking to us for direction.  To help navigate this challenge, PAVRO was fortunate to connect with Steve Armstrong of Paratus.  Steve has served as a infantry Sergeant Major in the Canadian Army, in addition to working as a Red Cross Executive & Disaster Manager.  Today, Steve works as a professional speaker, educator and leadership consultant who helps organizations to plan for challenges and enable long-term resiliency.  In 2003 Steve led hundreds of volunteers and staff through the SARS crisis, and on April 2, 2020 he led an informative webinar where he shared practical leadership strategies that managers of volunteers can readily apply to their teams.  During this time of uncertainty, we collectively need to remember to:

- Be human
- Be official
- Manage expectations
- Correct misinformation
- Respond to rumors
- Be transparent
